lowering your gaze of heart

Sometimes as a young Moslems, we were walking around and seeing half-naked girls or we were browsing in the internet and founding pornographic picture or movie, at that moment, did you immediately lower your gaze and say astaghfirullahal’adzim or naudzubillahimindzalik? If you did it I say alhamdulillah but if you didn’t do it you should continue to listen my speech carefully.
Wallahi, lowering your gaze as a young Moslem is very difficult but we should realize that the basic problem is not about our gaze but the problem is about our gaze of heart are not lowered in front of Allah. And the way to get closer with Him is by developing a strong connection to Allah. Let’s take a look at some of thing we can do to lower our gaze of heart and to get closer to Allah.
1. Work on perfecting all of the obligatory acts of worship.
Abu Hurairah narrated that the our prophet Muhammad said, ”Allah said : When I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strike, his foot with which he walks”.(Bukhari : hadith qudsi) Allah is telling us the best way to get close to Allah is by doing what He has ordered us to do.
2. Develop a relationship with the Holy Qur’an.
I want us to ask ourselves by this questions : When was the last time we actually sat down with the Holy Qur’an, read it in the language that we understand and pondered over the meaning? Or we just keep it off the top on our book shelves and let it catch the dust? Actually, the Holy Qur’an was sent down for us in order to we can think about and follow the order in it. How can we do that if we have no idea what is actually telling us to do? So my friends, now, we must set our goal to read minimal one page a day.
3. Increase the voluntary acts of worship.
Allah has said,” … My servants continue to draw near to Me with the supererogatory works so that I shall love them.” We can start off by performing optional prayer after/before each five daily prayers and also we can make effort to remember Allah throughout the day.
4. Hang out and spend time with the good sisters or brothers.
Wallahi, I know that it’s so hard to stop hanging out with the friends we become closer with. But remember, “ All friends will be enemies on the judgment day except those of the virtuous.” (Az-Zukhruf 63). And our prophet also said, “ you will be with those you love”.
Finally, beg Allah, make prayer, and ask him to allow you to get close to Him and guide you to the straight path. And I ask to you please remember me in your prayer if my article was of any benefit on you.
